WhizzyCommerce vs Shopify: fees, features and fit
WhizzyCommerce vs Shopify comes down to how you want to pay and what you need on day one. Below are Shopify's fees as they stand in October 2026, ours, what a month costs on each at four levels of sales, and where each platform is the better fit.
Shopify fees, plan by plan
Shopify charges a monthly plan. If you take cards through Shopify Payments, the card rate covers processing and there is no extra transaction fee. If you use another provider, Shopify adds a transaction fee on top of what that provider charges.
Shopify's help centre says third-party transaction fees apply on all third-party and alternate payment gateways, even when Shopify Payments is switched on. The exceptions are PayPal and manual payments, which are not charged that fee while Shopify Payments is active. Shopify Payments is available in Portugal and most of the EU.
| Shopify plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing, per month | Shopify Payments card rate | Fee with another provider |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | €27 | €19 | 1.8% + €0.30 | 2% |
| Grow | €74 | €56 | 1.6% + €0.30 | 1% |
| Advanced | €384 | €289 | 1.5% + €0.30 | 0.6% |
| Plus | from €2,100 | on request | 1.35% + €0.30 | 0.2% |
From Shopify's Portuguese pricing page, as of October 2026. Prices and rates differ by country. Shopify also runs an introductory offer for new shops.
WhizzyCommerce fees
Two plans. Free is €0 a month and 2% of each paid order. Pro is €49 a month and 0.5%, and the plan and fee together never pass €499 in a month. That ceiling is reached at €90,000 of sales; every sale after it that month carries no fee from us.
The fee is added up as orders are paid and billed on one invoice a month. It is never taken out of your payouts, because the checkout charges your own Stripe, PayPal or Mollie account, or ifthenpay in Portugal. Your provider charges its own processing fee, which you agree with them directly: Stripe's standard rate for European cards in Portugal is 1.5% + €0.25. See payments and pricing.
What a month costs, worked through
Fees in percentages are hard to compare in your head, so here is the total for a month, card processing included, at four levels of sales. The cheapest column is not always ours, and we have not adjusted the assumptions to make it so.
| Sales in a month | WhizzyCommerce, cheaper plan | Shopify Basic with Shopify Payments | Shopify Grow with Shopify Payments | Shopify Basic with your own provider |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| €500 | €20 (Free) | €39 | €85 | €47 |
| €2,000 | €80 (Free) | €75 | €118 | €107 |
| €10,000 | €299 (Pro) | €267 | €294 | €427 |
| €50,000 | €1,299 (Pro) | €1,227 | €1,174 | €2,027 |
Assumes a €50 average order, every card from the EEA, Stripe at 1.5% + €0.25 as the own provider, Shopify's Portuguese prices on monthly billing, VAT left out. As of October 2026.
Reading the numbers
- Starting out, Free costs less. Below roughly €1,700 a month, paying nothing until you sell beats a monthly plan.
- With Shopify Payments and steady sales, Shopify can be a little cheaper. From a couple of thousand euro a month, Basic or Grow on Shopify Payments comes out a few percent below us under these assumptions. Yearly billing widens that.
- With your own provider, we cost less. If you want Mollie, PayPal or ifthenpay for Multibanco and MB WAY, Shopify's extra fee on Basic is 2%, and our total is lower at every level in the table.
- At high volume the ceiling matters. Past €90,000 a month our fee stops growing, so the gap narrows again as you sell more.

Where each one is stronger
Shopify is stronger on breadth and track record: point of sale, a very large app and theme ecosystem, marketplaces and subscriptions through apps, and many years of running shops at every size. If you need any of that today, it is the safer choice.
WhizzyCommerce is stronger when you want to start without a monthly fee, keep your own payment provider without a penalty, and run the shop by telling it what to change. Every change the assistant makes is previewed first, confirmed by you on a page we draw, and comes with a receipt and an undo. Agents can work on the shop over MCP with named, scoped access. In Portugal, certified invoices go through your InvoiceXpress or Moloni account. And we are in open beta: the home page lists what is not built yet, so you can judge for yourself.

Questions
Does Shopify charge transaction fees?
Only when you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, on top of that provider's own fee. PayPal and manual payments are exempt while Shopify Payments is active.
Is Shopify Payments available in Portugal?
Yes, according to Shopify's list of supported countries. On Basic its online card rate in Portugal is 1.8% + €0.30, as of October 2026.
Does WhizzyCommerce charge a fee on every sale?
Yes: 2% on Free and 0.5% on Pro, billed once a month and never taken from your payouts. On Pro the plan and the fee together stop at €499 a month.
Can I take MB WAY and Multibanco?
Yes, through your own ifthenpay contract, switched on as a plugin. Cards, PayPal and Mollie's methods work through your own accounts with those providers.
How do I move from Shopify?
By hand for now: there is no Shopify importer and no spreadsheet importer yet. Add products on the Products screen or through the assistant, which adds a few at a time as previews you confirm and can fetch pictures from a web address. Customers and orders do not come across, so keep Shopify's CSV export as your record.
What does WhizzyCommerce not have yet?
Point of sale, a mobile app, marketplaces and subscriptions as a product type. Cost prices are not tracked yet either, so previews cannot warn about margin.
