A Wix eCommerce alternative built as a shop first

A Wix eCommerce alternative is worth a look when the shop has become the business and the website builder around it is mostly in the way. Wix is an excellent builder that also sells. WhizzyCommerce is a shop that is only a shop: free until you sell, run by talking to it, with your own payment account.

Why people look for a Wix eCommerce alternative

Wix is built to make websites, and it is very good at it. Its store is one part of that website, which suits a portfolio, a restaurant or a studio that sells a few things on the side. It suits less well a merchant whose day is the catalogue, the orders and the discounts, and who pays for a builder's flexibility without using it.

The other reason is portability. Wix says plainly that a Wix site cannot be moved to another host, because it runs on Wix's own technology. You can export your products as a CSV file, with pictures as links, but the design and the pages stay behind.

Where Wix is stronger

  • Design freedom. Drag anything anywhere, which a section-based theme does not let you do.
  • More than a shop. Bookings, events, restaurants and memberships sit beside the store in one site.
  • The App Market. A large catalogue of apps for things we do not cover.
  • Track record. A big company with years of shops behind it, where we are in open beta.

Where WhizzyCommerce is different

What we do not have yet is listed on the home page: cost prices, our own e-invoice exporters and an agency console among them. If your Wix site leans on bookings or events, stay where you are.

  • Free until you sell. No monthly fee on Free, 2% only when an order is paid. Pro is €49 a month and 0.5%, and Pro becomes the cheaper plan from about €3,267 of sales a month.
  • Everything in the box. Discount codes, gift cards, abandoned checkout emails, several currencies, a blog, translations and your own domain on both plans, with unlimited products, customers and orders.
  • Your money, your account. The shop charges your own Stripe, PayPal or Mollie account with your keys, and our fee arrives itemised on one invoice a month, never taken out of a sale.
  • An assistant that does the work. Ask for a sale, a new collection or a price change in one sentence; it shows exactly what would change, you confirm, and every change has an undo.
  • No lock-in. No contract, no notice period, and the whole shop downloads as one file whenever you like.

Wix vs Shopify, and where we sit

Most "Wix vs Shopify" searches come down to builder against dedicated shop platform. WhizzyCommerce is on the dedicated side, with euro prices, five dashboard languages and no monthly fee until you sell. Our Shopify comparison covers that choice, and free e-commerce platform explains what Free really costs.

Moving from Wix

  1. 1

    Export products

In your Wix dashboard, export your store products as a CSV file and keep it as your list to work from: nothing here reads it yet.

  2. 2

    Add your products

Type them in on the Products screen, where options become real variants, or describe them to the assistant, which adds a few at a time as a preview you confirm and can fetch each product's pictures from a web address.

  3. 3

    Design and go live

Pick a theme, add your payment keys, set shipping and tax, and point your domain at the new shop.

Questions

How much does Wix eCommerce cost in euro?

Wix sets its prices by country. In the euro area the plans that take payments were listed at about €25 (Core), €34 (Business) and €149 (Business Elite) a month billed yearly, and more billed monthly. Check wix.com/plans for your country.

Can I move my Wix site to WhizzyCommerce?

Not by import yet: there is no Wix importer and no spreadsheet importer. Add your products by hand or through the assistant, which can fetch each product's pictures from a web address. The design does not move either, because a Wix site only runs on Wix. Pick a theme and rebuild the pages in the editor, or ask the assistant to.

Is WhizzyCommerce cheaper than Wix?

For a small or new shop, usually: Free is €0 a month and 2% of sales, so €500 of sales costs €10. As sales grow, Pro at €49 and 0.5% takes over, capped at €499 a month. Payment provider fees are on top on both platforms.

Do I have to use a specific payment provider?

No. You connect your own Stripe, PayPal or Mollie account with your own keys, and the money goes straight to you.

Can I design my shop as freely as on Wix?

Not in the same way. WhizzyCommerce themes are built from sections you add, move and style, and you can write a section's CSS by hand. It is less free-form than Wix and harder to break.

Is it safe to move to a platform in beta?

It runs real shops today, and it is in open beta: the home page says what is built and what is not yet. There is no contract, and the whole shop downloads as one file if you change your mind.
