Import
Import products and migrate your online store
To import products from Magento 2, you put one readable file on your Magento server and run it: it reads your catalogue, customers, order history and promotions, and pushes them to your new shop. The first run is a dry run that counts everything and writes nothing.
Migrate an online store from Magento 2 in one pass
The connector is a single PHP file with no dependencies, so you can read all of it before you run it. It reads Magento's database directly rather than starting the framework, which is faster and fits in the memory a shared host allows. It runs on PHP 7.4 and later, handles both Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce, and runs in a browser or over SSH; SSH is the better choice past a few thousand products.
Nothing is pulled from outside. The file pushes to us, so your database credentials never leave your server and we never open a connection into it. The key it uses is shown once, opens exactly one shop, lasts 24 hours and is used up when a run finishes.
- 1
Create a dry-run key
In your shop's dashboard, under Settings, Import.
- 2
Put the file on your Magento server
Download it from the same screen and upload it under pub/whizzy.
- 3
Run the dry run
It ends with a table per kind of record: seen, would import, skipped, failed, and the first problems found.
- 4
Run it for real
Tick Import for real, make a fresh key and run the same command. Then delete the file.
What comes across
| Magento | In WhizzyCommerce |
|---|---|
| Categories | Collections, with name, description, position and URL key, and every product link kept |
| Simple, virtual and downloadable products | One product with one variant, with SKU, price, special price and its dates, stock, and active or draft |
| Configurable products | One product with a variant per child on the same options, so four colours in three sizes is one product, not twelve |
| Custom options | The product's questions: text, dropdown, radio, checkbox, date, time or file, with their prices |
| Bundles and grouped products | Bundles at their own price, flagged to rebuild; grouped products skipped, their members come on their own |
| Images | Up to twelve per product, copied into your shop's own storage so nothing points back at the old server |
| Customers | Name and email; each sets a new password from a reset link the first time they sign in |
| Orders | History as records with numbers, lines, totals and statuses; no payment taken, no stock moved, no email sent |
| Cart and catalog price rules | Rules that keep working, with coupon codes; a rule that lost a condition arrives switched off with the reason |
| Magefan blog | Posts, categories, tags and related products, when the Blog plugin is on |
A URL key becomes the handle, so /wool-coat.html becomes /wool-coat.
What stays behind, and why
- CMS pages and blocks: rebuild them in the editor, where they become sections you can move and reuse.
- Reviews, wishlists, addresses and newsletter consent. Consent in particular, because importing a flag you cannot prove is a GDPR problem waiting to happen.
- Store-view overrides: the default scope is read, and a second store view is a second shop.
- Tax, shipping and payment settings, which take a few minutes each in the dashboard. Payments run on your own provider account.
- Custom redirects.
Or have the move done for you
For the first 100 shops, a person on our side runs the import, checks what came across, keeps your URLs working and hands you a shop ready to open, free. Ask on moving from Magento, and see how the two platforms compare on WhizzyCommerce vs Magento.
Coming from somewhere other than Magento
To be straight about it: today the one-file importer is for Magento 2. There is no one-press importer for Shopify, WooCommerce or a spreadsheet yet. For a small catalogue, the assistant can add products for you, one preview at a time, each confirmed before it is created, including pictures from a web address.
Leaving works the other way round. Your whole shop downloads at any time as one zip: products, customers and orders as spreadsheets in Shopify's import format, every picture, and a full archive of the database.
Questions
Will the import change anything on my Magento shop?
No. The connector only reads Magento's database and pushes what it reads to us. When you are done, you delete the file.
Can I run the import more than once?
Yes. Every run needs a fresh key, dry runs write nothing, and you can narrow a rerun to certain kinds of records over SSH.
Do my customers' passwords come across?
No, Magento's passwords cannot be moved. Each customer sets a new one with a reset link the first time they sign in.
Will old order numbers keep working?
Yes. Orders come across as history with their numbers, so customers and your accounts can still find them.
Can I import products from a CSV file?
Not with a dedicated importer yet. Today the importer reads Magento 2 directly; for a small catalogue the assistant can add products one confirmed preview at a time.
