A Magento alternative, and the move done for you
Most people looking for a Magento alternative are not unhappy with what Magento can do. They are tired of what it costs to keep: servers, upgrades, extension conflicts and the developer who understands all three. WhizzyCommerce is hosted, everything is included, and for the first 100 shops we move your Magento shop for you, free.
Magento 2 end of life: what the dates actually say
Magento 2 as a whole has no end-of-life date. Each release line does. Adobe gives every 2.4.x line three years of standard support from its release, and some lines a further year of extended support. Once a line is out of support it gets no more security patches, so staying safe means upgrading every few years, with every extension and customisation along for the ride. Magento 1 reached its end on 30 June 2020.
| Release line | Released | Standard support ends | Extended support ends |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.4.4 | 12 April 2022 | 12 April 2025 | 14 April 2026 (ended) |
| 2.4.5 | 9 August 2022 | 12 August 2025 | 11 August 2026 (ended) |
| 2.4.6 | 14 March 2023 | 11 August 2026 (ended) | 31 August 2027 |
| 2.4.7 | 9 April 2024 | 31 May 2027 | 31 May 2028 |
| 2.4.8 | 8 April 2025 | 31 May 2028 | not announced |
| 2.4.9 | 12 May 2026 | 31 May 2029 | not announced |

Magento vs WhizzyCommerce at a glance
| Magento Open Source / Adobe Commerce | WhizzyCommerce | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Software you host and run (Adobe also offers it as a cloud service) | A hosted platform, nothing to install |
| Upgrades | Yours, every release line, extensions included | Ours, continuously |
| Price | Open Source is free; Adobe Commerce is licensed. Hosting and development on top | Free €0 a month and 2% a sale; Pro €49 a month and 0.5%, never more than €499 a month |
| Extensions | A very large marketplace | A small plugin catalogue; discounts, gift cards, abandoned checkout emails, currencies, blog and translations built in |
| Multi-store | Websites, stores and store views in one install | One shop per store; a second store is a second shop |
| B2B | Extensive in Adobe Commerce | Not a focus |
| Day-to-day | Admin screens | An assistant that proposes each change, you confirm, every change has an undo |
| Payments | Extensions for most providers | Your own Stripe, PayPal or Mollie account and keys |
Where Magento is stronger
If your shop depends on several store views, B2B quoting or a specific integration, Magento may still be the right tool. We are in open beta, and we would rather you stayed than moved to something that does less than you need.
- Scale and complexity. Large catalogues, several websites and store views, complex pricing and B2B in Adobe Commerce.
- Extensions. Something exists for almost every integration, ERP and carrier you can name.
- Control. On Open Source you hold the code and the server and can change anything.
- Maturity. Years of very large production shops and a deep pool of agencies.
Why WhizzyCommerce as a Magento alternative
The same holds if you are looking for an Adobe Commerce alternative, with a licence fee in the balance as well. If you are weighing Magento vs Shopify instead, our Shopify comparison covers that, and the pricing page has the sums for every level of sales.
- No upgrade cycle. No PHP version, no release line, no extension that breaks on the next patch.
- A predictable bill. Free costs €0 a month and 2% of sales; Pro costs €49 and 0.5%, never more than €499 a month. Hosting and every feature are included.
- Your own payment account. The shop charges your Stripe, PayPal or Mollie account, so the money goes straight to you.
- Run it by talking to it. Ask for a sale on a collection; see every price it would change; confirm; undo in one click if you change your mind.
- European by default. Five dashboard languages, prices in euro, and certified invoices in Portugal through your InvoiceXpress account.
What the move brings across, and what stays behind
The move runs on one readable file you put on your Magento 2 server. It reads the database directly, on both the Open Source and the Adobe Commerce layouts, pushes your shop across, and its first run is a dry run that counts everything and writes nothing. Your database credentials never leave your server.
- Comes across: categories as collections, products with their variants on the same option axes, prices, special prices, stock and up to twelve images each, customers, order history as records, promotions with their coupon codes, and Magefan blog posts when the Blog plugin is on.
- Keeps working: URL keys become handles, so /wool-coat.html becomes /wool-coat, and old order numbers still find their orders.
- Stays behind: CMS pages and blocks, reviews, wishlists, addresses, newsletter consent, store-view overrides, custom redirects, and tax, shipping and payment settings, which take a few minutes each to set up fresh.
- Customers' passwords cannot be moved, so each customer sets a new one the first time they sign in.

Questions
Is Magento 2 reaching end of life?
Not as a product. Each 2.4.x release line has its own support dates: as of October 2026, 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 are out of support, 2.4.6 is in extended support until 31 August 2027, and 2.4.9 is supported until 31 May 2029.
What happened to Magento 1?
Adobe ended support for Magento 1 on 30 June 2020. There have been no official security patches since.
Is the free move really free?
Yes, for the first 100 shops. A person on our side runs the import, checks it and keeps your URLs working. After that, the same connector and steps are public on the Magento page, so you can run it yourself.
Can I move from Magento 1 or from Adobe Commerce?
The connector reads Magento 2, both Open Source and Adobe Commerce. Magento 1 has no connector and there is no spreadsheet importer yet, so from Magento 1 products go in by hand or through the shop's assistant, one preview at a time, and customers and orders do not come across.
Will my Magento extensions work?
No, they are Magento code. The common needs are built in; for anything else, ask us before you move and we will say plainly whether we cover it.
What about my SEO?
Product and category URL keys survive as handles, so /wool-coat.html becomes /wool-coat. Custom redirects do not come across and are worth listing before you move.
Is WhizzyCommerce in beta?
Yes, open beta. It runs real shops with orders, payments and invoices, and the home page lists what is built and what is not yet.
