Questions
Short answers. The developer agreement is the binding version of anything here.
Rights
Who owns what
Can I sell my theme elsewhere?
Yes. We do not ask for exclusivity. The format only runs on WhizzyCommerce, but the design is yours to sell on other platforms in whatever form they need.
Who owns my theme?
You do. You give WhizzyCommerce a non-exclusive licence to host, review, demonstrate and sell it, and each merchant who buys it a licence to use it on one shop. You keep the copyright.
Can merchants see my code?
Partly, the way anyone can see a website's CSS. A shop sends your styles to every browser, and a merchant can export their own shop's design, which includes the theme's sections and CSS. Their licence lets them use it on their shop, not copy it into another or sell it. There is no JavaScript to protect, because a theme has none.
Over time
When things change
What happens if I stop maintaining a theme?
It is delisted for new sales after 12 months without a release, or 30 days after a platform change breaks it. Shops that bought it keep the version they have. Your earnings already made are still paid. See delisting.
How do I transfer a theme to someone else?
Ask us, from the owner of both accounts or with the receiving owner copied in. Staff move the theme with its workspace, its licences and its open support threads, and both owners are emailed. Future sales earn for the new account. Every line already earned stays with the account that earned it.
Can I close my developer account?
Yes. Your themes are delisted for new sales, merchants keep what they installed, and we pay any balance of at least the minimum once the hold has passed.
Working
How you work
Can a team work together?
Yes. Invite people under Developer › Team with one of three roles. An owner can do everything. A developer builds and submits themes but does not see money. Finance sees earnings, payouts and tax details and nothing else. Everyone works on the same workspaces, so there is nothing to merge.
Can I use my own fonts?
Use Google Fonts through the font tokens, which the storefront loads for you. Other fonts need a web licence you can show us, and the files have to be on our media CDN. Ask in your submission notes.
Can I use my own photos in the demo?
Only photos you own or hold a licence for that covers a public demo, and you may be asked to show it. The sample catalogues come with licensed photography, which is the easy route.
Do I need a paid WhizzyCommerce plan?
No. Development shops are free and never expire. You need a WhizzyCommerce account and an approved developer application.
