The marketplace
Merchants find themes at whizzycommerce.com/themes and in their shop's Design screen. A listing is what they judge you by, and support is what they remember.
What merchants see
Your listing
Edit it under Developer › Themes › your theme. A reviewer checks that the listing matches the theme before it goes on sale.
| Field | Rules |
|---|---|
| Name and description | Say what the theme is for and what it does well. No claims the theme does not keep. |
| Category | One of: Clothing and fashion, Jewellery and accessories, Beauty and cosmetics, Home and living, Food and drink, Electronics, Sports and outdoors, Kids and toys, Art and print, General. |
| Price | Free, or from €49.00 to €400.00 before tax, in euros. |
| Support email | An address a person reads, shown to merchants who bought the theme. |
| Documentation link | Optional. A page about setting the theme up, on your own site. |
Pictures
Demos and screenshots
You do not upload screenshots. They are taken when you submit, from your development shop, at phone, tablet and desktop widths, so they always show the version merchants would install.
- The demo. When your theme is listed, its development shop becomes the public demo merchants can browse. It keeps its sample catalogue and cannot take orders.
- Presets. A theme can have several demos, each with its own name, catalogue and settings, the way one theme can look like a fashion shop and a jewellery shop. Each preset uses one of your development shops.
Reviews
Ratings
Only merchants who have had your theme installed for at least 14 days can rate it, from one to five, with an optional comment. One rating per shop.
- You can reply once to each rating, publicly. Keep it about the theme and what you did.
- Staff hide ratings that are abusive, off topic or about something other than the theme. You cannot remove ratings yourself.
- A rating cannot be bought, traded or asked for in return for support.
Your side of the deal
Support duty
Merchants reach you through support threads we host, under Developer › Support. Reply within two business days.
| You see | You do not see |
|---|---|
| The shop's name, country and theme version | The shop's orders, customers or revenue |
| The merchant's email, once they open a thread | Any shopper's name, email or address |
| Screenshots and links the merchant puts in the thread | The shop's dashboard or settings |
Support covers your theme doing what the listing says, on the current platform. It does not cover custom work, which you may offer separately and charge for outside WhizzyCommerce.
Numbers
Stats you get
Developer › Stats shows each theme by day. Counts only, never who.
| Figure | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Page views | Views of the theme's page in the marketplace. |
| Demo opens | Visits to the theme's demo. |
| Trials | Shops that previewed the theme on their own catalogue. |
| Purchases and revenue | Paid licences, and the price before tax. |
| Installs and uninstalls | Shops that published or removed the theme. |
| Uninstall reasons | What the merchant said, when they chose to say something. |
Rules
Pricing rules
A merchant buys a licence for one shop. These rules keep that purchase worth what they paid.
- A price change applies to new buyers only. Nobody who already bought the theme pays again.
- Updates are free within the licence. For now that includes major versions.
- A licence covers one shop.
- Launch discounts and sales are set by WhizzyCommerce for now, not per theme. Your share is always of the price the merchant actually paid before tax.
- Free themes follow the same review, support and delisting rules as paid ones.
When a theme leaves
Abandoned themes and delisting
Merchants build their shops on your theme, so a theme nobody maintains is a problem for them. Delisting stops new sales. It does not remove a theme from a shop that has it, with one exception: a theme that harms shops.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| No release for 12 months | We ask you whether the theme is still maintained. Without an answer, it is delisted for new sales. |
| A platform change breaks it and it is not fixed within 30 days | Delisted for new sales until a fixed version is published. We tell you before the change ships whenever we can. |
| Support duty repeatedly missed | Lower position, then delisting. |
| Copied work, malware, trackers or a licence problem | Delisted at once, and the account may be suspended. A theme that harms shops may also be taken off the shops that have it. |
| You stop the theme yourself | Delisted for new sales. Existing shops keep the installed version. |
The full terms are in the developer agreement.
