Built in Portugal
An ecommerce platform for selling in Portugal
WhizzyCommerce is an ecommerce platform built in Portugal for shops that sell in Portugal and across Europe. This page lists what it does for a Portuguese shop today, and, just as plainly, what it does not do yet, so you can decide with the facts rather than a feature grid.
Payments Portuguese shoppers actually use
Every payment goes to an account you own, with your own keys. We never hold the money, so you are the merchant of record and the payouts, refunds and disputes are yours to control. See payments for the detail.
| Method | Through | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Multibanco | Your ifthenpay contract | The order is marked paid when ifthenpay confirms it, even days later |
| MB WAY | Your ifthenpay contract | The shopper approves on their phone |
| Cards | Stripe or ifthenpay | Methods you switch on in your own Stripe account, such as Apple Pay, appear without changes on our side |
| PayPal | Your PayPal account | Side by side with cards at checkout |
| iDEAL, Bancontact and more | Your Mollie account | For shoppers elsewhere in the EU |
With ifthenpay the shopper pays on ifthenpay's own page, and only in euro. Each provider charges its own processing fees.
Invoices: certified through your own software
The honest version first: WhizzyCommerce is not invoicing software certified by the AT (Autoridade Tributária). A Portuguese invoice has to come out of certified software, so we hand each one to yours. Install the InvoiceXpress or Moloni plugin and every paid order's invoice is issued in your own account as a fatura-recibo with its ATCUD, automatically, and reported to the AT by that provider. More on invoices.
| Task | WhizzyCommerce | Your InvoiceXpress or Moloni |
|---|---|---|
| Invoice for each paid order | Our own record, gapless numbering per shop | The certified fatura-recibo with ATCUD |
| Buyer's NIF | Asked at checkout, optional by default, check digit verified | Placed on the invoice; without one, consumidor final |
| 0% VAT lines | You pick the exemption reason once (M10, M05, M16 or M07) | Printed on the invoice |
| Credit note for a refund | Our own credit note, automatically | Issued by hand in your software, for now |
| SAF-T | No exporter of our own yet | Comes from your invoicing software |
IVA, and selling to the rest of the EU
A shop based in Portugal starts with 23% IVA and prices that include it, the way shelf prices are written here. You can change both under Settings, Taxes.
Rates are set by destination: a country, or a region inside it, with the most specific match winning, and each rate says whether delivery is taxed too. That is how you charge another EU country's rate to its shoppers once you sell there under the OSS scheme. Two limits, stated plainly:
- A rate applies to the whole order, not per product. A catalogue that mixes 6%, 13% and 23% goods cannot yet charge each its own rate.
- We do not file or prepare the OSS return. Registering for OSS and declaring it stay with you and your accountant.
- A buyer's VAT number is checked for shape, not looked up in VIES.
Shipping, collection and CTT
Delivery methods are your own: a flat price, or a table by order value or weight, free above an amount you choose, for the countries you ship to. Collection points let a shopper pick a location and pay no shipping.
CTT is a recognised carrier. Type the tracking number on the order and it reaches the customer in the shipping email, in their language. Because CTT's tracking sits behind a search form, the email carries the number but not a direct link. There is no CTT label printing or contract integration; labels are made in your CTT account as before.
Portuguese from Portugal
The dashboard is in Portuguese from Portugal, not Brazilian Portuguese, as well as English, Spanish, Italian and French. The storefront has European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese as separate languages, among more than twenty, and the emails shoppers receive follow their language. Your own product texts can be translated too: see multilingual shops.
An ecommerce platform for Portugal, with GDPR in mind
- Traffic and images are served through Cloudflare.
- The cookie banner is decided on the server: a shopper who declines receives pages with no third-party scripts in them at all.
- When you use the assistant, the shop data needed to answer is sent to Anthropic for processing and is not used to train models.
- Imports never carry newsletter consent across, because a consent flag you cannot prove is a GDPR problem.
Moving to a Portuguese platform from Magento
Many Portuguese shops still run on Magento. For the first 100 shops, a person on our side runs the move, checks what came across and keeps your URLs working, free: categories, products with variants and images, customers, order history and promotions. Ask on the Magento page.
On cost: Free is €0 a month and 2% of each paid order; Pro is €49 a month and 0.5%, never more than €499 in a month, and cheaper from about €3,267 of sales a month. The workings are on the free ecommerce platform page.
Questions
Is WhizzyCommerce certified by the AT?
No. Certified invoices are issued in your own InvoiceXpress or Moloni account, automatically for each paid order, with the ATCUD, and reported to the AT by that provider.
Can my shop take Multibanco and MB WAY?
Yes, through your own ifthenpay contract. A Multibanco reference paid days later still marks the order as paid when ifthenpay confirms it.
Does it export SAF-T?
Not from us yet. Because the certified invoices live in your InvoiceXpress or Moloni, the SAF-T file comes from there.
Does it work with CTT?
For tracking, yes: the CTT number goes to the customer in the shipping email. There is no label printing or CTT contract integration.
